Recently, on a trip to Naples, FL we were discussing the Pescatarian Diet with our server and it rose our curiosity. So this year, for Lent, we are choosing this diet and giving up meat for the entire six-week duration. In order to assist, we decided to use two different meal delivery services for the first time (SunBasket Referral and HomeChef Referral).
We usually try at least one home delivery kit per winter for a few weeks, just to mix up our menu options and relieve ourselves from one more daily decision after work. In the past, we have tried Hello Fresh, Plated and Blue Apron. They all have their pros and cons and I think rotating based on their menus is really the best strategy. Also, trying a different one per month also allows you to try very different menus.
Since we are just starting out, this post doesn’t have a lot of information yet, but we will add reviews and recipe screen shots as we progress through our six-week journey.
SunBasket
SunBasket delivery was nice, neat and in mostly recyclable containers. All ingredients were bagged by recipe with the recipe card inside. The seafood elements were underneath between 2 ice packs. Labeling was easy to read for those of us who need reading glasses now. Pricing starts @ $10.99/serving and adjusts based on number of meals per week and type of meal.
HomeChef
Home Chef delivery came the next day. We only chose 2 meals this week due to the menu options but added salads and smoothies for future weeks. This added feature of “sides, salads, and smoothies” is a nice add-on. The recipe cards are full page and they provided a slim notebook to keep the recipe cards together. Pricing starts at $9.95/meal and also adjusts per number of meals.
